● CHAPTER 13 ●

The game had ended and media were still crammed into the locker room, but that didn’t stop Bishop from answering the FaceTime call he received from Barrett. He knew the girls were at the end of their practice and he needed to see this. He was out of his skates, but still half way in his gear when he edged off to the back corner.

“Hey. It’s loud in here but I can see everything,” Bishop said as soon as Barrett said hi and pointed the camera to face the ice. He could hear Barrett’s commentary and his loud cheers for Ivy and Bella. It made him excited that Bella had someone there cheering as loudly for her as he would have.

He was watching the girls skating across the ice and Bella stretched out her leg and then reached out to catch the puck in her glove. He jumped with excitement and let out a loud whoop. All the attention of the locker room that had been focused on Morry detailing their win, shot over towards him. His skin flushed and he could hear Barrett laughing in the background.

“What’s happening over there?” Preacher questioned.

“Bella’s first scrimmage,” Bishop admitted. The lights from the cameras blinded him. He doubted the footage would hit television screens but he wanted to share her success. “She’s a goalie for her eight and under team. Look.”

He turned the phone in order for everyone else to see. The girls were still skating back and forth across the ice trying to get a point. Bella was making it hard for them.

“Is that Ivy?” Tony asked pointing to the blond braid flowing from underneath her helmet. “She wasn’t kidding when she said you were her favorite. She plays like you. Vicious.”

“Your daughter is a goalie?” One of the reporters asked.

“She sure is.” Bishop grinned. “She’s definitely been practicing when I wasn’t looking.”

He turned the phone back facing him and he laughed at one of the girl’s cellies after they scored on Bella. There had been a lot of jumping and shaking going on. He loved seeing how excited and happy they had all been. When they got into a game he knew they would be focused and serious, but here in practice they got to have fun.

“I wish I would have recorded Bella warming up. She’s been working on her butterfly stretch in her gear. She ended up slipping on the ice and Ivy tried to help her up. They were a mess.”

“Thank you,” Bishop rubbed at his eyes. “Tell the girls we scored one for each of them. I’ve got to go. There are a lot of cameras and you might be famous in the morning. My bad.”

The entire locker room burst out laughing as Bishop ended the call and looked up at the sheepishly. “I’m going to get in so much trouble for being on my phone with you guys in here.”

“I think you deserve a pass,” the reporter commented. “I think any of the guys would have done the same thing.
